この展覧会についてABOUT THIS EXHIBITION
1962年にデビューし、瞬く間に世界のトップミュージシャンとなったビートルズ。本展は、ジョン・レノン、ポール・マッカートニー、ジョージ・ハリスン、リンゴ・スターの4名が世界を熱狂させ社会現象となる1963年12月から、「エド・サリバン・ショー」でアメリカを席巻した1964年2月までの約３か月間の記録です。
ポール・マッカートニーのペンタックスカメラによって捉えた「ビートルマニア」の当時の熱狂を、彼自身が撮影したもので、マッカートニーが「嵐の目」と表現した写真は、自身がビートルズとして過ごし、世界的なスーパースターとして世間を席巻するまでのストーリーです。今回選ばれた写真は約250枚。ポール・マッカートニー自身で選定し、当時についての考察も紹介されています。
中には、リバプールのバックステージで撮影されたものや、「エド・サリバン・ショー」に出演した際の写真など、60年前からネガやコンタクトシートのままでプリント化されてこなかった貴重な写真が展示されます。
◆ ポール・マッカートニー
ポール・マッカートニーは、20世紀から21世紀にかけての偉大な文化人の一人として知られています。リバプールに生まれ、ビートルズのメンバーとして国際的な名声を得た後、グループ「ウィングス」のリーダーとなり、その後ソロ活動も成功させました。代表作に「Yesterday」「Hey Jude」などがあり、世界的にも最も個性的なソングライターの一人です。
